Tangerines Finish In Drop Zone After Home Draw

Conwy Borough are facing relegation to the Welsh Alliance after Saturdays 3-3 home draw against Mold Alex.

Despite coming back from 3-0 down to rescue a 3-3 home draw, the result means that the Tangerines will now finish in the bottom two and relegation now depends on what happens with promotion issues in feeder leagues, which is likely to be confirmed at the end of April, although the chances of survival look very slim.

With so much at stake resting on Saturdays result the performance in the first period left the Conwy faithful shell-shocked as the home side produced a terrible first half display.

The visitors got off to an unbelievable start with two goals in the first 10 minutes courtesy of the lively Mold forwards Jordan Stafford and Rhys Nash, who then added his second just before half time after more poor Conwy defending.

To their credit Conwy came out in the second half with much more purpose, piling on the pressure on the Mold defence. The first goal was pulled back in the 71st minute with a penalty by substitute Mark Buchan .

Six minutes later it was 3-2 courtesy as Steve Foster finished past the keeper after a sweeping move. Foster found the net again with a well hit strike in injury time to grab a point but the Tangerines sadly left themselves with too much work to do and the win they badly needed was out of reach.

"I'm bitterly disappointed at the outcome today.” said Pritchard following the game.

“In the first half we were never at the races and we got punished for our lack of bravery. Yes, the second half is a fantastic comeback from 3-0 down to snatch a draw, but we should never have put ourselves in that position and should have managed the game better.

"Mold came here and took their chances and credit to them but we are bitterly disappointed with the result and the performance today sadly reflects our season.”

In a season that has seen three managers in charge at Y Morfa and over 50 players make first team appearances, the club will be looking to plan to build for next season in the Welsh Alliance and ultimately return to the Huws Gray Alliance as quickly as possible.
