Conwy Borough FC vs Amlwch Town

The Welsh Cup

Going into the cup game against Amlwch Perry made changes to the Conwy Borough line up to help give game time to the players who haven’t been playing in the league.

Conwy started slowly out of the blocks struggling to use the ball well, giving possession away cheaply and they were made to pay in the 16th minute by Jack Griffiths who picked the ball up around the Conwy box and was able to score with a low driving shot. This seem to wake Conwy Borough up however and within three minutes they were given a chance to get back on level terms when Corrig was brought down in the box. He dusted himself off and scored the penalty himself with the goalkeeper Ryan McKean able to get his hand on the ball but not able to prevent it going in. Amlwch nearly retook the lead in the 25th minute from a corner but the header cannoned off the post. Again, Amlwch had the chance to retake the lead this time in the 34th minute with Jack Griffiths breaking through the defence one on one with Ceirion Hall but the Conwy keeper was able to get a leg onto it and deflect it out for a corner which resulted in nothing. With very little chances for Conwy they were then awarded another penalty in the 41st minute when the ball was handled by a Amlwch player in their own box. Corrig doubled his tally for the day when he scored the resulting penalty in off the post. Giving Conwy a 2-1 lead going into half time.

In the second half Conwy moved up the gears, pressing higher and started to use the ball better and within three minutes they were 3-1 up with a very well worked goal. Sion Hogan was fed the ball on the left created a bit of space and was able to cross the ball in with Tom Walsh hitting the ball first time on the volley into the top corner. Five minutes later and Conwy put the game to bed with Kevin Lloyd getting himself on the score sheet with a low driving shot. Corrig had the chance to grab another hat trick of the season in the 80th minute from a freekick but the ball went over the bar. Conwy finished the game as worthy winners 4-1.
