3 weeks ago By Conwy Admin

Conwy Borough manager Gareth Thomas has announced the capture of four major signings to signal that squad building at Y Morfa is well underway.

Three of the new boys include players from last seasons Welsh Alliance winning Glantraeth side.

The first major arrival confirmed is 20 year old goalscoring sensation Corrig McGonigle. The former Caernarfon youngster scored an incredible 59 goals at Glantreath last season with a prolific record at his previous clubs including Llangoed, Pentraeth and the successful Bangor Under 19 team.

Thomas commented “I am delighted to of captured Corig with several clubs interested in the talented forward. I thought I would try my luck with him as I knew he would be in demand but I am delighted he has chose to join the club and really look forward to working with him.”

"I have signed for the club due to my ambition to recreate my success in the same league from last season and score more goals.” said Corrig.

"I am pleased to have signed for Conwy and looking forward to how the team are going to improve and to get back to where they belong. I am really looking forward to working with Alun and Perry and to pushing Conwy upwards and onwards."

Defender Iolo Hughes is the next capture from Glantraeth to join the Tangerines. The 21 year-old centre half is regarded as an outstanding prospect who has represented Wales at Schoolboy level along with the Welsh Colleges team. He has also previously played for Bangor City and Porthmadog. Iolo was chased by several Cymru Alliance clubs but manager Gareth Thomas was able to secure his signing. "He has an superb future ahead of him and I am glad that he has signed for us. He is a good footballer, I watched him several times last season and he will be a key signing for the club.” said Thomas

The next capture is Sion Hogan, a 24-year-old left sided player who has also has previously played for Menai Bridge and Llanfair PG.

“Again we have been able to fight off competition to secure Sion who is another talented player who is very versatile. He is young and keen to progress and will be a great addition."

Another coup for the club is the capture of experienced forward Kevin Lloyd who joins from Caernarfon Town.

“Kev is massive signing for the club, he will bring in a touch of experience into the front line and can play anywhere across the forward line.

"I have seen Kev on many occasions through the years and he is a no-nonsense player who gives his all for the team. He is strong in the air and scores goals, I am also really looking forward to working with him."

“I drove to Anglesey with Alun last week to meet the lads and we explained our plans for the club for the coming season. To be able to capture all four players is a massive coup for the club and will allow us to build on in the coming weeks.”
