The best way to keep up to date with Conwy Borough Football Club

Interview with the Assistant Manager

11 months ago By Andrew Brockbank

Alun Winstanley gives his thoughts on the upcoming season.

New Challenge for you this season?

Yes indeed it is, and one I am very much looking forward to and focused on. It is a different challenge from my last club but one that I feel I have the ability to complete and move the club forward.

What attracted you to the club?

The club has so much going for it and a lot of hard work has been done in the back ground to ensure the club can go forward not just off the pitch but also on it. I am friends with Darren who was the vice chairman when I took the role and his influence was significant although I must say that the new chairman Tony is outstanding and I feel the club is in the right hands. The appointment of Perry was a key factor and although I have never worked with him I have known him a long time and I know he has great contacts and outstanding experience as a manager at various levels.

Ambitions for the Coming Season?

I am under no illusions how difficult this league is going to be, but having said that I do believe the squad we have assembles and their desire, hard work and commitment to what we are trying to do will stand us in good stead and we will be looking to win the league and return to the Cymru Alliance at the first time of asking. I am looking forward to the challenge and working alongside the Gaffa, players and the board over the next 9 months or so.

Who do you see as being in contention for the League this season?

I think that is a tough one as their will be lots of clubs with the ambition to win the league and test themselves in the Cymru Alliance. I think that Llangefni will be up there as will be Llanrug and Nantlle Vale who have strengthened well, that being said it is a tough league on their day anyone can beat anyone.

How competitive will the League be?

I think the league will be extremely competitive and a tough nut to crack, there are some very good players plying their trade in this league and some have turned down Cymru Alliance teams to play at this level.

You have assembled a strong squad of players who do you feel will be main players for the club?

That is a very tough question to ask and one I feel is very difficult to answer as this league will only be won by a squad of committed and talented players, I fully believe in that a team will win you a game but a squad will win you the league.
