Conwy crashed out of the JD Welsh Cup at Gresford but can feel hard done by with the result going down 5 - 1 in a game littered by some strange decisions by the officials.
The game started with both sides looking to play football on a superb surface, chances were limited for both sides early on before Gresford opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a counter attack when Conwy had the ball in the Gresford penalty box, but rather than shoot, Tommy Creamer's pass was intercepted and the home side attacked, and Owen Roberts fired home via the post. This sparked Conwy into life and they gradually got on top of the game with a well deserved equaliser on 37 minutes when Tommy Creamer had a superb strike into the net to level matters. As the half was coming to an end Gresford went ahead as the Conwy side appealed for offside from a short corner kick, Dave MacIntyre picked the ball up and smashed home a shot which again hit the post on the way in and gave the home side a 2 - 1 lead.
The 2nd half started and Gresford got the crucial 3rd goal as Jack Jones fired home from after Conwy failed to clear a corner. To Conwy's credit they kept going, creating several half chances. Perry threw on 3 attacking subs and went with 3 at the back, but as the game went into the final few minutes Gresford hit Conwy twice on the break, 1st Aaron Edwards heading home on 88 minutes, then in the final minute Jack Chaloner rounded off the scoring to give the home side a flattering scoreline in a very good performance from Conwy against higher league opposition. The dream of the Welsh Cup comes to an end but on another positive performance from the team who will feel aggrieved by the manner of the defeat.
